Pittenweem tidal pool
West Braes, Pittenweem, Fife
This re-opening is the work of the West Braes Project in Pittenweem, a voluntary
organisation run by the community.
Looking from the west you can see the many steps available for sitting, changing and drying in the sun.
The whole pool, taken looking east at about half-tide.
From above the shore looking south-west. Safe, sheltered bathing in fresh sea-water
with no added chlorine.
An almost perfect cross between an indoor pool and open sea swimming. The best of
both worlds. And free to use (though contributions are always welcomed).
With the pool at the top left of this photo. There's a small café, run
by the volunteers, a small gift shop, crazy golf and nearby well-maintained toilets.
The Fife Coastal Path runs right through this picture from top centre to bottom left.
Looking directly down with the steps down to the pool right at the top of the photo.
To avoid the steps there's also access via a sloping path for those with prams or in wheelchairs.
The café and outdoor tables sit alongside the Fife Coastal Path.
A children's playground and an easy stroll from free parking complete the scene.
We like the puffin on the wall (but it's not too popular with the members of the Sand Eel Preservation Society...).
