Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian
The ruins of the Palace on the edge of Linlithgow town. A favourite home of Mary Queen of Scots who was born here in 1542. In the background you can see the main Glasgow to Edinburgh railway line and the Union Canal is set into the hillside above it. It's not a distorted image, the Palace is built on the side of a hill which slopes down from right to left in this view.
The church to the right (with the distinctive spire) is St Michael's Parish Church of Scotland. To help locate Linlithgow for those not familiar with the area (and to show off a little of the image quality) there's an added enlarged section of the top left horizon of this image which just shows the Forth bridges to the east, through the haze.
The full-sized images available to clients are about 70 times the size of the images shown here and as you would expect they show a great deal more detail than the .jpg website versions.
