Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian

The ruins of the Palace on the edge of Linlithgow town. A favourite home of Mary Queen of Scots
who was born here in 1542. In the background you can see the main Glasgow to Edinburgh railway line
and the Union Canal is set into the hillside above it. It's not a distorted image, the Palace is built
on the side of a hill which slopes down from right to left in this view.


From a little lower down and further back, just for a change. The church to the right (with the
distinctive spire) is St Michael's Parish Church of Scotland.

To help locate Linlithgow for those not familiar with the area (and to show off a little of the image
quality) there's an added enlarged section of the top left horizon of this image which just shows the
Forth bridges to the east, through the haze.
