Kingsbarns (Fife Ness) Harbour, Fife
This is a set of three photos of the old ruined harbour at Cambo Ness
in the East Neuk of Fife, not far from the village of Kingsbarns.
The harbour's earliest record is from 1537 when it was used to
collect taxes and Customs dues for the Burgh of Crail as well as acting as a
fishing port for the village of Kingsbarns.

The harbour was extensively rebuilt by Robert Stevenson in 1813 to serve the building
of the Isle of May lighthouse and was an important point in the selecting and
shaping of the stone for that construction.
Marks on the rocks are still visible from where the lighthose parts were assembled
on shore as a test-bed before being taken over to the island.
(The plan is to add photos of them to the page in the spring.)
The Isle of May light was turned off in 1887 when the North Carr Lightship was put
in place seven miles away.

From further back you can see not only the edge of the Kingsbarns golf course
but also the St Andrews Bay golf centre on the left horizon.
As you can see by the busy car park this is a popular beach, even on a brisk
day in November.
In passing, the owner of this website has been visiting this beach since
the summer of 19 (continued page 97).
