The Heavy Horse
This statue of a Clydesdale horse sits right next to the M8 motorway on the eastern approach to Glasgow, at Junction 9 near Baillieston and Easterhouse. It was designed and built by Andy Scott of Glasgow in 1997. It's 4.5 metres tall (14 feet) and made from various rod thicknesses of galvanised steel.
From up here you can see over the motorway to the edge of Easterhouse. You can also see the slip roads to and from junction 9 of the M8, just to the east.
From ground level you can get some idea of the size and realism of the beast.
Before editing this close-up photo it wasn't apparent that it has a glint in its eye. The full-sized images available to clients are about 70 times the size of the images shown here and as you would expect they show a great deal more detail than the .jpg website versions. Standard images are 5,000 pixels wide and ~50Mb in size. Panoramas are much bigger. Click this line to view the Image Quality Sample page.
