Dundonald Links, North Ayrshire

The general view, looking south-east.

So far, despite being open for some time, it still looks a little temporary and unfinished. Not that it affects the quality of the course which most golfers claim is rather excellent.

In the background are the Meadowhead paper mill, Dundonald village, the castle and quarry on Dundonald Hill and the radio mast above Troon. The A78 main coast road runs along behind the trees just this side of the paper mill.

These were taken in the early evening of a sunny day in June with the light coming in from just north of west.

A couple of hundred yards to the right of the camera is Western Gailes golf club and to the back left, just as close, is Glasgow Gailes. Barassie (Kilmarnock) golf club is off to the right about 500 metres away and Royal Troon is a mile or so south. There's also a plan to build a new course a half mile away between Glasgow Gailes and the sea.

The area isn't short of excellent golf courses is the point being made here.

A panorama of the whole area.
